Chelsea here, reporting live from the first day of my birthday month, which means you're getting a giddy, over-the-moon version of me sliding into your inbox. Chelle and I were on our content meeting (along with our incredible VA, Amy) when she told me she loved the reel I'd shared earlier that morning. "Oh, I love the reel you just posted!" Chelle told me. "Did you see the other one I did? The one before that?" I asked because frankly, I was delighted by the content I'd created. I watched it multiple times in the creation process, and several more since posting. This is the one I'm talking about if you're feeling curious. And while part of me wonders whether you'll judge me if I admit how much I amuse myself with my content, this almost 33 year old just can't be bothered to care about being judged by things that delight me. Besides, as I've often said before, starting and growing your own business requires a bit of healthy narcissism if you're going to stick it out for the long haul, and I'm not afraid to cultivate that in myself. One of the most delightful things we've discovered since going into business together instead of doing it alone is how much easier it is to love our work. To feel like what we're doing is enough. And to stay motivated to keep going and keep doing the things because we aren't bogged down by all the thoughts of self-doubt, not good enough, and insecurity. Unfortunately, not everyone has a dream business partner waiting in the wings, or a collaborative business idea they're ready to go in on. Chelle and I were very, very lucky in that department. But while we can't all start a business with someone we respect and adore, we can cultivate a similar experience by creating a circle of co-conspirators, cheerleaders, support unicorns ready and waiting to tell us that yes, that reel was amazing, and the fact that it didn't get its due means you'll need to tweak it and share it again in a few weeks. That person or group of people is invaluable to your long-term success. Whether it's in the form of a business bestie or accountability buddy, a coach, a mastermind, or a coworking circle, we hope you'll get yourself around people who help you feel that little bit of delulu energy that we all need to make it in this wild world of entrepreneurship. Based on the award-winning work of Harvard's John Kotter, it is a story that has been used to help thousands of people and organizations. This book was a surprising addition to my favorites list. It's a fable about a colony of penguins faced with the impending challenge of their home melting away. It's also a textbook in my Master's degree class on Leading Through Change. I love how the author took a deep and complex issue such as corporate change management and turned it into a fun to read picture book.
